Lawnmowers take a lot of abuse during the Spring and Summer, more than you might realize. Best Line Equipment knows it’s tempting just to store the mower away and forget about it until next year, but here is your reminder to winterize it before storage. It will take you less than an hour to ensure you can pull the cord and rev up in the Spring. Not to mention, it might save you the expanse of a repair next season.

Here are some quick steps you can take to winterize any of your 4-cycle machines. Provided is an overview of the steps you should take. First, you will conduct a general overview that you should do on any machine before winterizing.

1. Do a quick visual check of the 4-cycle machine.

-Look at the recoil and make sure it is in good condition

-Make sure the deck adjustment levers are in operational condition

-Adjust the mulching selector making sure it moves freely

-Inspect the rear guard flap, checking that it is solid

-Check the discharge, clearing it of any debris present

-Lastly, make sure there are no holes, cracks, or chips in the deck

2. Once you complete the visual check, make sure the air filter is clear of debris and that it is not in one solid piece.

-Make sure the ridges are visible and clear

3. Check the oil level making sure it is an acceptable range.

4. Add a stabilizer to the fuel tank to prevent oxidation or varnishing of the fuel.

5. Shut off the fuel valve (refer to the manufacturers guidelines)

    Run the fuel system down

6. Conduct run down procedure to drain the carburetor

There is one last step for winterizing a 4-cycle machine. For a power washer, add conditioner to the pressure pump or water pump to ensure that no water remains and that it is lubricated for the next season.
