How to Choose the Right Diamond Products Blade

When cutting through tough materials like concrete or asphalt, you need a quality saw blade that will meet the demands of your projects. There are many factors to consider when choosing the right saw blade such as the material you are cutting, the type of saw you will be using, and whether you will be dry or wet cutting. 

What to Consider When Choosing a Diamond Products Blade:

  • What are you cutting?
    • A basic rule of thumb: Use something hard to cut something soft and use something soft to cut something hard. For example, if you're cutting a hard material, like concrete, use a softer bond. Conversely, if you're cutting a soft material, like asphalt, use a harder bond. At first, this may sound backwards, but the goal is to get the most use out of the diamonds in a blade. When cutting through a hard material, the diamonds will fracture quickly. To combat this, you'd use a soft bond so new diamonds would be exposed to continue cutting. When cutting through a soft material, the diamonds will not fracture as quickly. Using a hard bond will allow you to hold onto them for longer. 
  • What type of saw are you using?
    • Will you be using a walk behind saw, a high speed saw, a masonry saw, etc.? Knowing this will help you choose a blade that's compatible with your saw. 
  • What size blade do you need?
    • Before deciding what diameter your blade should have, make sure to determine the cutting depth you need to achieve.
  • Wet or dry cutting?
    • Will you be using a wet or dry blade? Dry blades are typically used for intermittent cutting, where as wet blades are ideal for continuous cutting.
