Three Ways to Prepare Your Skid Steer for Fall Weather

Sep. 17 2018 Bobcat By Best Line Equipment

Winter will be here before you know it and that is not a time to park your skid steer loader.  One of the worst things to do to your skid steer is to have it sit alone idle throughout winter.  Give your skid loader a winter workout with Bobcat attachments for snow removal.  The Bobcat skid steer loader will quickly become your favorite machine for snow removal. Before you get ahead of yourself in winter, there are some maintenance tips you should be doing before snow flies!

Fluids, Oil, and Fuel!

Be sure to check fluids, oils and fuels and refer to your operation and maintenance manual for instructions on filling your machine with the proper and correct quantities of fluid.  When we start feeling that temperature drop it is important to have an engine oil viscosity that matches the temperature outside.  It is also important to have a low temperature grease for lubrication on the pivot points.

Tires, Tires, Tires...

Keep your tires inflated! Sagging tires on your skid steer is one of the first physical signs you will notice due to cold weather. When you tires have low pressure, they can translate into lower push and lift capabilities. Be sure you know what the proper inflation is for the specific tires on your machine before inflating.

Attachments

If you have attachments on your machine, they should be inspected before being put to work. Give the components of the attachments a visual check. This walk around check should include any hoses, cylinders and guards, cutting blades, and edges.  By doing this, you will be able to determine if wear is developing or damage has occurred. Keep in mind also that some attachments may require you to check fluid levels and lubrication as well.

By practicing these three tips for the weather changes, your machine will perform better for you.  If you do not check these, it could potentially lead to a much bigger problem down the road and even worse, downtime.
